Thing 16

Sixteen down and seven to go. YEAH! I would like to use Wikis to create a book study for teachers and one for kids. I need to learn some more about how to keep it private so that only those in the study can contribute. I think this would help me with managing as a WIKI rookie. I can't wait to get started.

Thing 15

Library 2.0 means that technology is the tool that will navigate our quest for learning. As we embark upon this task, I think that school libraries will need to be better technologically equipped. Our librarians also need to be free to roam and support. They should not be part of lunch duty or a specials block. The library should be an open access area with extremely flexible scheduling.

As I read the articles, I envisioned a cafe type atmosphere where communities were being developed through conversations, blogs. The library is no longer that place that you entered into quietly. It should be the hub of the school and the community. There is a need for more than one librarian within this area to help meet the needs of so many learners. This cafe would be available 24 hours, 7 days a week through the use of the web.

Bring your own mug!

Thing 14

I looked at the different ways to search for School Library Learning 2.0 and found tags to be the most difficult. I like the directory for blogs. I think that I can benefit from Technorati by streamlining the topics I am interested in reading about. The tags help me see what the majority of the population finds to be interesting.

Thing 13

I had trouble with the del.icio.us video so started with the others for background information. I explored dellicious and think that I can use this tool to organize my bookmarks. I get excited when I find info that I end up over bookmarking then not able to find what I need. As a literacy coach, I can make public bookmarks that support the teaching of reading and writing. I love that I can access my bookmarks from anywhere.

Thing 12

I am recovering lurker. Learning the etiquette of commenting on blogs has supported my recovery. I had been uncomfortable about posting my opinions with real world examples but have learned that this does for a valid post. Another important point is the importance of modeling for children the right way to disagree. I think that the fear I had for DC had also kept me from commenting on a post.

I went back and commented on my blog comments, the polite thing to do. I would like to know how to let the original "commenter" know that I have responded. I also commented on five additional posts.

I found three blogs on immigration, a subject of personal interest. The first blog was for the Brownsville Herald. It drew my interest because I am a Valley girl and the blog was about a local lawyer, Carlos Cisneros, gone author. The theme of his book, The Case Runner, is immigration. My students and I had listened to an audio streaming interview on Arte Publico. The next blog where I commented is on a site entitled Immigration Orange. This site has a global view on immigration. On that site I found a link to a CNN story about an immigrant whose saved money was seized at the airport as he attempted to return to his country. I also commented on that blog. My parting words come from Roberto Unger: "In history obedience rarely pays; what pays is defiance."

Thing 11

Adding books was simple. I'm not sure that this is a resource that I would use. I did check out the groups and did a search on education. I found one entitled Bit By Bit that is about thoughts and reflections on education. I also found a group whose purpose is to encourage people through literature of education, enrichment and/or enlightment.

Thing 10

Wow! Talk about camouflaging 100+ things into 23...only in education. I used imagechef, happyfacegenerator and customsigngenerator to addd images to my blog. I found comic strip generator and custom sign generator to be the most tedious to use. I really enjoyed using big huge labs, kid-friendly image generator and trading card maker. I think kids can use trade card maker for biographies.

Thing 9

I found Google Blog search to be the easiest way to find feeds. I thought Google Blog, Technorati and Topix east to use. I'm thinking that Blogline's Search Tool and FeedBlitz were somewhat confusing. I found feeds on news topics that I am interested in to be useful. I enjoyed being able to read about blogs about education. I used links within blogs to help me find newsfeeds. I'm afraid my computer is going to crash!!!!
